Pelican Rope Works’ Glow Helicopter Long Haul and Short Haul ropes receive NFPA Certification
SANTA ANA, Calif. – July 12, 2010 – Pelican Rope Works announced today that it has received UL Certification to National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards for its proprietary Life Safety Glow Helicopter Long Haul and Short Haul ropes. These ropes consist of a braided core of 100% DuPont™ Kevlar® Advanced Performance (AP) fiber and a Kernmantle braided cover of Pelican’s patented Glow Nylon Fiber.
These one-of-a-kind NFPA Life Safety ropes were developed by Pelican specifically for night or low-light helicopter rescue operations carried out by the US Coast Guard, Fire and Rescue, Military and Law Enforcement Airborne units worldwide. As Corporate Members of the Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA), Pelican’s management is dedicated to developing new products to increase the safety for those who risk their lives for others.
Pelican’s Glow Nylon, Polyester and Polypropylene rope fibers have a patented Glow pigment and process which embeds the pigment into the core of the fiber at the point of extrusion. This prevents the glow from rubbing off, or being damaged by otherwise harmful elements. This process also prevents damage to work surfaces and the rope itself caused by abrasive rope coatings.
“The NFPA’s minimum break strength requirement for these Life Safety ropes is 8,992 lbs,” said company president Terry Walker “Because of our commitment to safety and dependability, as well as the additional strength provided by the new Kevlar® AP, the minimum break strength of our Life Safety Glow ropes, according to Underwriters Laboratories testing, is 12,162 lbs. We’ve developed a complete line of proprietary Glow ropes used for Water Rescue Operations, Cave Diving and Cave Rescue, Close Quarters Rescue, Helicopter Rescues as well as the rope used in the Worldwide Free Diving competition. These Glow ropes help to complete our diverse line of Fire, Rescue, Law Enforcement, Tactical and Military specialty ropes demonstrating our continuing commitment to producing the highest performance products available in the market today.”
